Kwara State Government says Asa Dam Water Works will resume full operation and supply of water to designated areas under its coverage as soon as fixing of the lamina plates is completed.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Usman Yunusa Lade stated this while inspecting Asa, Sobi and Agba Dam Water Works all in Ilorin.

He explained that the on-going rehabilitation works at the dam was at its peak, stressing that the contractor handling the project is now fixing the lamina plates at the treatment plant.

The Commissioner noted that the state government was working towards addressing challenges facing the water works to allow smooth operation of the dams.

The Ilorin Zonal Engineer, Owolabi Hakeem and the Director, Water Engineering Services, Engr. Yusuf Wopa briefed the Commissioner on the challenges of human activities which are responsible for the diversion of water from the main dams.

They appealed to the state government to proffer workable solutions to the lingering problems.

At the Sobi Water Works, the Commanding Officer, Cantonment Maintenance Group, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Lt. Col. Sunday Eche, who received the Commissioner called for government prompt intervention to alleviate their sufferings as the dam is the only source of water supply to the Barracks.
