Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria MACBAN, in Kwara State.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has commenced a full investigation into the killing.
Abubakar was shot dead on the evening of March 8, 2025, at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi. Police operatives responded swiftly to the scene, where they recovered five expended 7.62mm shells.
His remains have since been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Mortuary.
CP Olaiya assured the public that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice.
He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agents by providing useful information that could aid the investigation.
The police boss called on anyone with relevant details about the incident to report to the police to facilitate the ongoing probe.
