The Oba of Babanla, Alhaji Adegboyega Yusuf Alabi Arojojoye II, has urged government authorities and private investors to harness the vast forests within his domain for productive purposes.

Speaking at the Press Centre of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Monarch explained that the forest stretches into Patigi, Edu, Oke Ero, and parts of Kogi State, making it difficult to monitor and thereby creating a haven for criminal activities.

Oba Adegboyega Yusuf clarified that contrary to some reports, none of his subjects were kidnapped during the recent attack on the community.

He noted that the invaders struck on a market day, looting property, carting away goods, and stealing about 20 motorcycles.

Oba Yusuf stressed that beyond security, developing the forest for agricultural, commercial, or industrial use would create jobs, stimulate local economies, and deny criminals the cover they currently enjoy.

The monarch therefore appealed to the Nigerian Army to establish a barracks within the area as part of a broader security strategy.

He also called on both state and federal governments to partner investors in transforming the forest into an economic hub for the benefit of surrounding communities.
