The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammad, has urged media professionals across the country to remain committed to promoting peace, unity, and social harmony in the discharge of their duties.
He made the call at a one-day Academic Excellence Summit organized by the Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Institute of Communication and Information Technology, Kwara State Polytechnic.
Engr. Muhammad commended the organizers for what he described as an “eye-opening and impactful” programme, noting that such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping the future of communication professionals and enhancing national development.

Delivering the keynote address, the Director of Research, Innovation and Management at Redeemer’s University, Professor Felix Olajide Talabi, stressed the importance of education as a driver of national progress.
He urged the Nigerian government to urgently prioritize the education sector to address the country’s persistent developmental challenges. According to him, education remains a fundamental solution to the socio-economic problems confronting many African nations.
Professor Talabi noted that countless globally successful individuals attained prominence through one form of education or another, encouraging students not to view education as a waste of time. He emphasized that education broadens opportunities, enhances personal growth, and equips young people with the skills needed to excel in their chosen careers.

The Head of the Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Pastor Enoch Opaleke, praised the Rector for unbundling Mass Communication to allow for specialization.
He explained that the summit was organized to mark the department’s first anniversary and to revive the spirit of excellence among students.
Beneficiaries of the awards at the event included Peter Arowolo Abanise, Ajayi Rofiat Eniola, Oguntominiyi Damilola, Popoola Rokibat Balatilo, Aliyu Rokibat, Oluwatoyin Blessings, and Mobolaji Ifedapo. The Outstanding TikTok Content Creator Award was presented to Daudu Olabode.
