As part of efforts to show love, encouragement, and renewed hope, the Wife of the Kwara State Governor, Professor Olufolake AbdulRazaq, today, distributed Christmas packages to inmates of Nigeria Correctional Centres across the state.

Speaking at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Okekura, and the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Mandala, Ilorin, Professor, AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Mariam Nnafatima Imam, assured the correctional centres of continuous support and urged inmates to embrace positive attitudinal change.

She reiterated that her foundation, Ajike People Support Centre was designed to rehabilitate, reform, and reintegrate individuals into society.

In his remarks, the Controller of Corrections, Kwara State Command, Mr Emmanuel Olohunsagba, appreciated Mrs AbdulRazaq for her humanitarian gesture and unwavering commitment to the welfare of inmates and correctional officers.

Also speaking, the Officer-in-Charge of the Okekura Custodial Centre, Assistant Controller of Corrections Omole Olumuyiwa, acknowledged the consistent support of the Kwara First Lady, stating that the gesture would further transform lives and strengthen the collective pursuit of a safer and more humane society.

Similarly, the Officer-in-Charge of the Mandala Custodial Centre, Assistant Controller of Corrections Olaniran Adeniran, commended her and appealed for continued interventions in the areas of improved security, vocational skills development, solar lighting, and borehole facilities to create an enabling environment for positive behavioural change and successful reintegration.

Speaking on behalf of the inmates, Joseph Joy and Adebisi Adesakin expressed gratitude to the wife of the Kwara State Governor for the gesture, noting that the ongoing reforms, training, and empowerment programmes had helped reshape their lives.

They, however, appealed to the government to consider granting amnesty to deserving inmates.

Items distributed included bags of rice, beans, garri, spaghetti, groundnut oil, eggs, toiletries, sugar, and other essential commodities.
