Kwara State has been proudly represented on the international stage as Wife of the State Governor, Prof Olufolake Abdulrazaq became the latest distinguished figure to sign the House of Commons Nelson Mandela Tribute Book at the UK Parliament.

The prestigious Mandela Tribute Book was established in 1999 and is founded and curated by Nic Careem, who serves as its founder and custodian.

The book honours the life, leadership, and moral legacy of Nelson Mandela, one of the world’s most revered champions of freedom, reconciliation, and human dignity.
Since its establishment, the Tribute Book has amassed more than 700 handwritten messages from presidents, prime ministers, Nobel laureates, civil rights leaders, cultural figures, and global changemakers.

It stands as a unique and permanent parliamentary record celebrating Mandela’s enduring influence across generations and continents.

In a moment of particular significance, Abdulrazaq penned her tribute on the same page as former UK Prime Minister David Cameron and former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow; placing her among internationally recognised leaders who have honoured Mandela’s legacy.

Reflecting on the occasion, she said:
“Nelson Mandela taught the world that leadership is rooted in courage, compassion, and service. It is a profound honour to add my voice to this historic tribute and to reaffirm Africa’s commitment to justice, dignity, and education for all.”

The Kwara First Lady’s signing represents a moment of pride not only for Nigeria, but especially for her State, reflecting its strong tradition of leadership, education, and public service, as well as its growing contribution to global dialogue on peace and social justice.

Speaking after the signing, Nic Careem, founder and custodian of the House of Commons Nelson Mandela Tribute Book, said: “It is a great honour to welcome Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq into this historic record. Seeing her message alongside those of former Prime Minister David Cameron and Speaker John Bercow underlines the global respect she commands– Kwara State and Nigeria should be immensely proud.”

The House of Commons Nelson Mandela Tribute Book continues to serve as a living document of global respect for Mandela’s legacy, curated to inspire future generations in Africa and around the world.
