Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent student protest at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

The committee is mandated to examine both the immediate and remote causes of the protest, as well as assess how the situation was managed by the institution’s authorities.

The panel is chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman.

Other members are the Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, and the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr. Mercy Olufunke Shittu.

According to the state government, the committee has been given two weeks to submit its report to the Governor.

Its terms of reference include identifying the factors that triggered the protest, recommending measures to prevent a recurrence, and proposing strategies to enhance the growth and stability of the polytechnic.

Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRazaq has directed the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, to step aside with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The most senior Deputy Rector has been appointed to oversee the affairs of the polytechnic in an acting capacity.

The committee is also expected to engage relevant stakeholders as part of its fact-finding and consultation process.
