National Chairman of Kaiama Development Association (KDA), Alhaji Yakubu Salihu, has disclosed that 13 of the 176 people abducted during the terrorist attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State are still missing.
Alhaji Salihu made the disclosure while speaking on a local television programme monitored in Ilorin.
He explained that records available to the association show that 163 victims have regained their freedom, leaving 13 persons yet to be accounted for.
According to him, some of the rescued women returned from captivity pregnant, while others gave birth during the six months they spent in the kidnappers’ den.
He said the Kwara State Government is making arrangements to transport the rescued victims to Ilorin, where they will receive proper care and be supported to reintegrate into society.
“Hopefully, by Friday they will be moved to Ilorin,” Salihu said.
The KDA chairman also appealed to the Kwara State Government to urgently rehabilitate the roads leading to Kaiama, describing them as being in a deplorable condition and a major challenge to security and economic activities in the area.
He called on the Federal Government to fast-track the establishment of a Nigerian Army battalion in Kaiama, stressing that a permanent military presence is necessary to prevent future attacks and restore public confidence.
Salihu commended the Federal Government and security agencies for securing the release of the abducted victims but maintained that lasting peace in the area would require sustained security measures and improved infrastructure.
