Residents of Upper Gaa Odota Community in Ilorin have dissociated themselves from recent statements attributed to one Alhaji Saad Rafiu regarding the state of development in the community.

In a press conference, Chairman of the Community, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Apete, said the comments made by Alhaji Saad Rafiu on Facebook were exaggerated and did not represent the views or position of the peace-loving and law-abiding residents of Gaa Odota.

Alhaji Apete stressed that Alhaji Saad Rafiu is not a recognized member of the community and was not mandated to speak on behalf of the residents or criticize the government and its officials.

He described the community as one that values peace, progress and respect for lawful processes, adding that residents have continued to work with relevant authorities to promote development and maintain harmony.

The community chairman expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government for its contributions to the development of Gaa Odota, particularly the provision of transformers and solar-powered street lights, which he said had improved electricity supply, infrastructure and security within the community.

He also commended the government’s empowerment programmes targeted at women and youths, describing the initiatives as a source of hope and economic support for many families in the community.

While appreciating the existing partnership with the government, Alhaji Apete appealed to the state government, through the Ministry of Works, to expedite the rehabilitation of roads within the community.

He noted that officials of the Ministry of Works and other government agencies had visited Gaa Odota to assess the condition of the roads, expressing optimism that urgent action would be taken to address the situation.

The community chairman urged residents to remain calm, united and committed to constructive engagement, saying the community would continue to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to promote sustainable development and peace.
