Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after leading the country’s delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President renewed Nigeria’s call for reform of the UN Security Council, including permanent African representation.
He also pushed Nigeria’s positions on fairer global financing, climate support and stronger multilateral cooperation.
At other high-level meetings, Shettima promoted Africa’s mineral value addition, education financing and regional integration.
He also met with Nigerians in the diaspora and the new leadership of the ECOWAS Commission, as well as UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
Shettima’s engagements focused on strengthening Nigeria’s role in global diplomacy and advancing the country’s development and economic interest.
