Traders in the Omoda area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, have sent an urgent appeal to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and security agencies to step up security measures in the community following a wave of shop burglaries.

The affected business owners, who are reeling from severe financial losses, are also requesting state government assistance to help them recover and sustain their livelihoods.

Speaking to journalists, one of the victims, Mrs. Abdul Baqi Taibat, recounted how burglars broke into her store through the ceiling and stole 15 bags of chick feed valued at ₦150,000. She revealed that the incident occurred on the very day the stock was delivered, with her child discovering the break-in upon returning from school.

According to Mrs. Taibat, the culprits used the same ceiling entry to break into an adjoining tailoring shop.

The owner of the tailoring establishment, Mrs. Kafayat Samsondeen, revealed that her shop had been targeted for the third time. She disclosed that the burglars stole approximately 15 pieces of expensive customer fabrics, each six-yard piece valued at around ₦30,000 along with clothes stored inside her wardrobe.

Mrs. Samsondeen lamented the devastating blow to her business, noting that distressed customers are already demanding immediate refunds for their missing materials.

Expressing frustration that community efforts to trace the perpetrators have so far yielded no positive results, the victims called on the Kwara State Government to intervene urgently by deploying adequate security personnel to Omoda to prevent further attacks.
