Kwara Farmers Urge Government To Prioritize Local Production Of Agric Inputs, Machines
Farmers in Kwara State have appealed to federal government to provide enabling environment for local production of farm inputs and equipment to ensure food security in the country.
The Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kwara State, Chapter, Comrade Umar Mahmud-Aboki made the appeal in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen on the state of the nation.
Comrade Mahmud-Aboki noted that local industries in the country have the capacity to produce affordable modern farm tools and equipment for farmers.

He explained that importing farm inputs and equipment would make food more expensive and beyond the reach of common man.
The AFAN Chairman also appealed to the government to stabilize the price of petroleum products to prevent incessant increase in the prices of goods and services in the country.
Comrade Mahmud-Aboki said that the prices of goods and services are dependent on the price of petroleum products which affects daily activities of Nigerians.

He advised government to empower Local Government Chairmen to grant soft loan to farmers at the grassroot to increase food production.
Umar Mahmud-Aboki enjoined government at all levels to train more agric extension agents to educate rural farmers on modern faming techniques.
He also implored the government to always place priority on genuine farmers during distribution of farm inputs to ensure success of the programme.
