A strategic partnership between the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and State Attorneys-General has been described as crucial in the fight against corruption.

This was the focus of a Roundtable Engagement held in Ilorin between the ICPC and Attorneys-General from the North-Central region of the country.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, former Attorney General of Sokoto State, highlighted that fostering a well-structured relationship between the ICPC and State Attorneys-General is imperative, noting that such synergy holds great promise in advancing the realization of socio-economic rights and ensuring accountability at all levels of government.

Dr. Usman also advocated for the institutionalization of regular joint training programmes for prosecutors, investigators, and members of the judiciary.

he advised that training should focus on emerging trends in digital forensics, asset tracing, and the continuous review of anti-corruption legislation to reflect global best practices.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, House Committee on Anti-Corruption, Prince Kayode Akiolu, described the roundtable as timely and necessary.
He lamented the deep-rooted nature of corruption in the country, describing it as a corrosive and intimidating giant that has eaten deep into Nigeria’s foundations.
He however called for concerted efforts from all sectors to take back the country from this monster.

Also addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, and the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with State Attorneys-General and other stakeholders in the collective anti-corruption crusade.

Radio Nigeria Harmony FM reports that the roundtable served as a platform for open dialogue and collaboration aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework through stronger inter-agency cooperation.
