In a bit toward supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has donated 35 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to the Presidential Initiative on CNG (Pi-CNG).

The event held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, was led by NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bashir Ojulari, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Federal Government’s gas development agenda and its broader energy transition goals. “NNPC Ltd is proud to play a pivotal role in advancing the government’s gas strategy through expanded gas supply, infrastructure development, and retail distribution.”

Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, who described the gesture as more than just a mode of transport.said The buses symbolize economic relief, environmental stewardship, and social equity.

“This reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda—an initiative to reduce transportation costs, cut reliance on petrol, and leverage Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources.”

Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Ltd, Mr. Mumuni Dagazau highlighted the economic impact of CNG adoption, noting its potential to reduce dependency on petrol (PMS) and diesel (AGO), while stimulating growth in the local gas sector.

Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, Executive Vice President, Gas, Power & New Energy, added that NNPC Ltd remains fully committed to leading the CNG commercialization drive as momentum builds nationwide.

Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, emphasized the broader vision of the initiative: “NNPC Ltd is shaping a future that prioritizes people, communities, and the planet through sustainable energy solutions.”

Programme Coordinator and CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, thanked NNPC Ltd for its consistent partnership, describing the company as a dependable ally since the inception of the initiative.”This donation marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a more sustainable and economically resilient transport system powered by cleaner energy.,”
