Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State has been recommended for Open Defecation Free (ODF) status by the National Task Group on Sanitation (NTGS).
This significant development follows a comprehensive supervisory visit by NTGS delegates who assessed the sanitation conditions and infrastructure across the LGA.
The recommendation highlights the State’s consistent commitment and investment in aligning with the Federal Government’s ambitious goal to eradicate open defecation throughout Nigeria by 2030.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Yunusa Lade, who expressed joy over the achievement, thanked the NTGS team for their dedication to the national sanitation agenda.

Alhaji Yunusa Lade noted that the recommendation for Oke-Ero’s national validation marks a substantial stride towards achieving statewide ODF status.
The General Manager of RUWASSA, Mr. Olorunfemi Oladipo, attributed the achievement to the culmination of over three years of intensive work by the relevant authorities.
Mr Oladipo emphasized the crucial role of collaboration among local authorities, community stakeholders, and sanitation advocates in reaching this milestone.
With the Ministry of Water Resources, RUWASSA, and other key stakeholders working together, Kwara State is well on its way to becoming one of the Nigeria’s pioneering open defecation-free states.
