Criminal gangs operating across Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have suffered heavy losses following a joint operation by security forces and local vigilantes.
According to security sources, the coordinated raid, which began Sunday night and lasted into Monday morning, targeted hideouts around Baba Sango and Oro River, near Babanla.
Reports say the criminals attempted an ambush but were swiftly overpowered by the superior firepower of the security forces.
Many of them were killed during the encounter, while no fatalities were recorded on the side of the security personnel.
It was confirmed that air support has also been deployed to strengthen the ongoing clearance operation in the vast forest zone.
Authorities say the campaign is part of government’s renewed effort to root out violent gangs responsible for repeated attacks on innocent residents of surrounding communities.
