Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a Chief Imam in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident occurred on November 4, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m., following the death of one Ibrahim Gana, a 25-year-old resident of Sokunkpan Village in Tsaragi.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained that the deceased, who had been ill and receiving treatment at a hospital, passed away that evening. However, his brothers, identified as Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, allegedly accused the Chief Imam of the village, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for their brother’s death.
In a shocking act of mob violence, the duo reportedly mobilised several individuals and attacked the Chief Imam with dangerous weapons, leading to his death.
Following the report, police operatives swiftly launched an investigation and succeeded in arresting four suspects, while efforts are ongoing to track down others who fled the scene.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, strongly condemned the act and warned residents against resorting to jungle justice, stressing that taking the law into one’s hands constitutes a criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law.
He urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s dedicated emergency channels.
CP Ojo reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and security across the state, adding that further updates on the investigation would be communicated as it progresses.
