The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a notorious vandal who specialised in stealing and damaging electricity transformer components across the state.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that on November 3, 2025, at about 5:50 p.m., operatives of the Eruku Police Division apprehended one Samson Ayodele, a resident of Skyway Road, Egbe, Kogi State, while vandalising the transformer that supplies electricity to Koro Town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Items recovered from the suspect include three copper wire bars, one fuse, two connection wire bars, two wooden covers, two aluminium wires, several bolts and nuts, a bag of tools, and a digital scale.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that he had previously been arrested, charged, and imprisoned in Kogi State for similar offences. He, however, returned to the same criminal activity upon his release.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, commended the vigilance of the staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and the swift response of officers from the Eruku Division that led to the arrest.
CP Ojo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure across the state, describing vandalism as a serious offence that undermines essential services and community development.
He warned that the command would not tolerate any form of sabotage against public utilities, adding that it will continue to work closely with communities and service providers to identify and apprehend offenders wherever they operate.
The Police Commissioner also urged residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious movements around public installations to the nearest police station, stressing that timely information remains crucial to maintaining public safety and service continuity.
