The Kwara State Police Command has rolled out enhanced security measures across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities to ensure the safety of residents.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered the strategic deployment of personnel to communities, markets, worship centres, motor parks and other sensitive public locations to forestall any security breach during the festive period.

The Command reiterated that the use of fireworks, bangers and other explosive devices remains strictly prohibited, warning that such items can cause panic, trigger false alarms and, in some cases, be exploited by criminals to mask unlawful activities.

It stressed that anyone found violating the directive will be arrested and prosecuted.

The police also reaffirmed that the existing restriction on the movement of motorcycles (okada) and tricycles (keke napep) between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. remains fully in force, noting that the measure has significantly contributed to the reduction of night-time criminal activities across the state.

While urging residents to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, the Command assured the public of its readiness to maintain peace, safety and order throughout the festive season and beyond.

It added that all relevant updates would be communicated through official police channels.

Residents were encouraged to promptly report emergencies or suspicious activities to the Kwara Police Control Room via 08125275046 or 0703206950.
