Stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of Kwara State have begun rallying support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, popularly known as 3SU.
Senator Umar, who represents Kwara North in the Senate, is expected to formally declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
An industrialist and stakeholder from Kwara South, Dr Lanre Shittu, has urged residents of the state to assess the senator’s performance at the National Assembly and use it as a basis for supporting his aspiration.
Dr Shittu made the call in Ilorin during a meeting convened by an APC elder, Dr Olayinka Oniyangi.

At the event, he also received an award on behalf of Senator Umar from an online platform, Curious TV, in recognition of the lawmaker’s performance.
The United States-based medical practitioner noted that many residents of the state are favourably disposed to Senator Umar’s ambition, citing his track record and capacity to build on the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He, however, emphasized the need for a fair and objective evaluation of all aspirants, urging stakeholders to focus on performance and policy-driven considerations.

Earlier, Dr Olayinka Oniyangi explained that his support for a Kwara North candidate is rooted in fairness, equity, and justice.
He pointed out that the Kwara Central and South senatorial districts have occupied the governorship position multiple times since the state’s creation in 1967.
Dr Oniyangi, therefore, called on stakeholders from Kwara Central and South to support the emergence of a candidate from Kwara North in the 2027 governorship election.
