The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition in a coordinated security operation.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on April 23, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Team.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes and forest guards, took place at Oke-Iya Community.

According to the statement, three suspects—Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar—were initially apprehended.

The suspects are believed to be linked to a recent attack on Idiya Community, during which five persons were abducted.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the victims had earlier escaped from captivity.

Further intelligence gathering led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, in connection with the crime.

Items recovered from the suspects include a locally fabricated revolver rifle modified to fire AK-47 ammunition, along with eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.

The police said investigations are ongoing, adding that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the process.
