The Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. (Mrs.) F. O. Awolola, has called for increased patronage of locally produced goods as a means of strengthening the local economy and improving practical learning opportunities for students.

Dr. Awolola made the call during an inspection visit to the wood workshop at the institution’s Institute of Skills Acquisition ahead of the TETFund assessment of skills development interventions for 2025 beneficiary polytechnics.

The Acting Rector, accompanied by other principal officers of the institution, challenged staff of the workshop to focus on producing high-quality furniture capable of meeting the needs of the Polytechnic and its staff before seeking markets outside the institution.

She stressed the need to uphold high production standards while promoting locally made products within the Polytechnic community.

Dr. Awolola also encouraged students to undertake group projects, noting that such initiatives would not only generate income but also provide practical experience relevant to their academic pursuits.

In her remarks, the Director of the Institute, Engr. (Mrs.) Onipede Elizabeth, expressed readiness to further explore the initiative, describing it as a productive blend of students’ practical training and local craftsmanship.
