The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union has described the death of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, as a painful loss that has diminished the people of Ilorin Emirate.
Professor Ambali, who was until his death the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State University, reportedly passed away on Saturday at the age of 68.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Union, Mallam Suleiman Shuaib Dagbo, the IEDPU said its National President, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, and members across the world received the news with shock, disbelief and profound sadness.
The Union described the late professor as a patriot, accomplished scholar and gentleman who served his community and humanity with humility, dedication and commitment.
According to the statement, Professor Ambali made significant contributions to the activities of the Union, including serving as Chairman of the Maiduguri Branch and chairing the opening ceremony of the Union’s 2018 National Conference.
The IEDPU also recalled his remarkable contributions to the growth and development of the University of Ilorin, noting that his tenure as Vice-Chancellor remains widely celebrated for its numerous achievements.
The Union extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the managements of Kwara State University and University of Ilorin, as well as friends and associates of the late academic.
The statement prayed to Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljanat Firdaus.
