President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on his conferment of the prestigious title of Sardauna of Ilorin.

The title is being conferred on Governor AbdulRazaq by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari, in Ilorin on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

President Tinubu commended the Emir for bestowing the historic title on Governor AbdulRazaq, who also serves as President of the Forum of Regions of Africa.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga,
the President described the honour as a fitting recognition of Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership, public service and contributions to the development of Kwara State.

He particularly acknowledged the governor’s efforts to promote inclusive growth, social cohesion and the well-being of the people of the state.

President Tinubu also commended the Emir of Ilorin for preserving the important role of traditional institutions in promoting harmony, supporting democratic governance and advancing sustainable development.

The President urged Governor AbdulRazaq to regard the culturally significant title not only as a mark of honour, but also as a call to greater service and responsibility.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the governor would bring his experience, leadership, statesmanship and goodwill to bear in advancing the interests of the people of Kwara State and contributing to the progress and unity of Nigeria.

He wished Governor AbdulRazaq continued success, wisdom, strength and good health as he assumes the responsibilities associated with the Sardauna of Ilorin title.
