FG Kick Starts Sale Of Milled Rice At Reduced Price
The Federal Government has officially commenced its intervention programme for the sale of subsidized milled rice to alleviate the prevailing food crisis in the country.
The programme, which was launched by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, is aimed at making rice available and affordable to Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable and low-income households.
Deriving from the escalating cost of food stuff in the Country and the attendant suffering by the citizenry, the Federal government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has kicked started the sale of milled rice at a reduced price of N40,000 per 50kg bag, compared to the market price of N90,000.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the food intervention was timely as this is one of the numerous efforts of the present administration to cushion the effect of high cost of food by releasing 42,000 metric tons of Assorted Food Commodities and 30,000 metric tons of milled rice to vulnerable Nigerians.
Senator Kyari said the Federal Government being aware of the potential challenges associated with the sales of an important staple such as rice, at this critical period has deployed a multi-disciplinary machinery of Government, as well put in place certain processes and conditions to ensure the transparency, wider reach and success of the exercise.
Minister for State, Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi, lauded the gesture of President Bola Tinubu for the initiative and stressed that the programme would go a long way in ameliorating the economic Hardship faced by some Nigerians.
Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmood, also commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for spearheading the programme and also pledged to work together with the Ministry to achieve more for the benefit of the nation.
The subsidized rice would be available for purchase at designated centres across the country, and the Federal government has assured that it would monitor the programme to ensure its transparency and success.
This initiative is expected to bring relief to many Nigerians who are struggling to access affordable food, and it is a step in the right direction towards addressing the food crisis in the country.
