
LG Election: Kwarans Go To Polls To Elect Chairmen, Councillors
Residents of Kwara State are today going to the polls to elect Chairmen and councillors across all the sixteen Local Government Areas of the State.
The election is coming seven years after the last council poll which was held in 2017 during the tenure of Former Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed.
Five political parties are participating in the exercise.
They are Accord Party; All Progressives Congress, APC; Allied Peoples Movement, APM; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and Social Democratic Party, SDP.
According to the Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWASIEC, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Okanla, the election will be conducted in two thousand, eight hundred and eighty-seven polling units across one hundred and ninety-three wards, with over twenty-one thousand adhoc staff.
Voting is expected to commence by eight o’clock in the morning and end by three o’clock in the afternoon.
Already, security agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have deployed their personnel to parts of the State to maintain law and order.
Human and vehicular movement have been restricted during the period of the exercise.
