Kwara State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance across the state, in compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

A statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, explains that the exercise, which began on February 1, 2025, aims at ensuring that all vehicle owners in the state obtain or update their third-party insurance policies.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, the enforcement is being coordinated alongside the DC Operations, with Area Commanders, DPOs, and Heads of tactical teams mandated to monitor compliance among motorists.

CP Olaiya warned officers to maintain professionalism during the enforcement, emphasizing that the image and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force must not be tarnished.

The enforcement aligns with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Motor Vehicle , Third-Party Insurance Act, which require all vehicle owners to secure third-party insurance policies before operating their vehicles on Nigerian roads.

The insurance policy guarantees safety for road users and victims from liabilities in the event of accidents.

Vehicle owners in Kwara State are urged to obtain or update their third-party insurance policies to avoid legal sanctions.

The enforcement exercise will continue with close supervision.
