In continuation of its ongoing efforts to provide safe and potable water to residents of Kwara State, the Government has repaired a major water pipeline at Flower Garden, Ilorin.
The pipeline supplies water to residents of Flower Garden, Lajorin, Offa Road, Sabo-Oke, Amilengbe, Adualere, Isale-koko, Oja-Gboro, Ipata, Sabo-line and some parts of Okesuna.
During an inspection of the facility, the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Usman Lade urged residents to complement the Government’s effort by ensuring that water pipelines are not damaged or obstructed.
Mr Lade, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Christiana Asonibare, also warned against erection of structures on water pipelines because it prevents water supply to benefiting communities.
“Erection of structures like residential buildings, mosques, churches and shops on the water pipelines by the people is inimical for adequate water supply across the State.”
In a remark, the Lead Engineer in charge of the repaired pipeline, Bamidele Idowu, confirmed that the repair has been completed and that the equipment would be test-run by the weekend.
“The repair is completed and we’re just waiting for it to dry, after which we will test-run it to be sure there are no lapses”, he said.
Engineer Idowu gave assurance that water would be supplied to the benefiting communities as soon as pumping begins.
