Contractors handling infrastructural projects in Kwara State have been charged to adhere to health and workplace safety protocols. 

State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola gave the charge during stakeholders’ meeting with the contractors, following the collapse of a fence between Kwara Hotel and an adjoining building that claimed lives of three workers at the site. 

Dr Segun Ogunsola warned that the state government would not condone any act that violate safety protocols, quality control, and professional ethics. 

He commiserated with the families of the victims, and prayed to God to repose their souls, pointing out that the processes for insurance compensation for their families were already ongoing.

Dr Ogunsola tasked the contractors on the need for them and their workers to pay attention to all construction work hazards and be familiar with the use of personal protective equipment as well as risk assessment process.

The Commissioner gave emphasises on the safety rules, emergency procedures, legal responsibility, and the best way to promote safety protocols at construction sites.

In there separate contribution, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Mr Damilola Yusuf-Adelodun; and the Chairman, Kwara State Geographic Information Service, Mr Sulyman AbdulKareem stressed the importance for contractors to erect notice boards with health safety inscriptions to serve as a reminder for their workers.
