The Kwara State Police Command has thwarted an alleged plot to murder an Ilorin resident and steal his vehicle, following a swift and coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the prime suspect.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the incident came to light on November 10, 2025, when one Abdulazeez Ishaq of the Gerewu area, Ilorin, reported that a man identified as Adekoya Opeyemi — popularly known as Justice — had confessed to being contracted to kill him and escape with his 2013 Honda Accord.
According to the statement, Adekoya revealed that the alleged mastermind, one Abdulwahab Ahmad, instructed him to overpower the victim, tie him up, lock him in the boot of his vehicle, and drive to the Unity area of Ilorin. From there, Abdulwahab was expected to take possession of the car and head to Ibadan with the victim still trapped in the boot.
Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives advised the complainant to cooperate while the command deployed discreet surveillance around the agreed location. The suspect was arrested immediately he attempted to take delivery of the vehicle, preventing what could have resulted in a fatal incident.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the officers involved, describing the successful operation as “a testament to the tactical alertness and dedication of the command.”
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, emphasising that effective collaboration between the public and the police remains critical in the fight against crime.
The CP also acknowledged the support and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, whose “visionary leadership and operational drive continue to inspire notable breakthroughs across police commands nationwide.”
The police said investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the process.
