Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Sunday joined the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General W. Shuaib, at a special Yuletide luncheon organised for troops of the Nigerian Army at Dabban Lema, Edu Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Modupe Joel, the event, held in the theatre of operations, was attended by top security commanders in the state, the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr. Mariam NnaFatima Imam; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu; Chairman of Edu Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello; and representatives of the Emir of Lafiagi.

Speaking at the luncheon, Governor AbdulRazaq said the gathering highlighted the importance the Nigerian state places on the welfare and sacrifices of troops deployed on the frontlines to maintain peace and safeguard national stability.

“Our presence here shows that the civilian authorities stand in full solidarity with our troops. We are grateful for your sacrifices and commitment,” the Governor said.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, the Governor urged security agencies to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, noting that unity and effective coordination remain critical in tackling terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

He added that keeping Nigeria safe and united is a shared responsibility, cautioning against action that can undermine the troop morale or their sacrifices.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaib, represented by the Commander, Signals Corps, Major-General Mohammed Abdullah, commended the troops for their courage, discipline and dedication, especially those unable to spend the yuletide season with their families due to operational demands.

Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major-General Chinedu Nnebeife, described the luncheon as a morale-boosting initiative aimed at recognising gallantry, strengthening cohesion and consolidating operational gains.

He praised troops of 2 Division for their resilience and professionalism, noting that their sustained operations have degraded criminal activities, reassured communities and enhanced security across the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
