The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted accreditation to the preclinical programme of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.

According to a statement by the Acting Director, University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the team leader and Deputy Registrar of the MDCN, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakama, made the pronouncement during the exit briefing of the accreditation exercise held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the KWASU Business School, Ilorin.

The accreditation team commended the synergy and camaraderie between Kwara State University, Malete, and Kwara State University Teaching Hospital.

The team leader noted that the medical programme was highly capital and human resource intensive, stressing the need for sustained investment to ensure the growth and continued recognition of the institution’s medical school.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, conveyed the appreciation of the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the report underscored the Council’s role in sanitising the profession and promoting the growth of medical education.

The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed delight at the outcome of the exercise, appreciating the thoroughness of the process and pledging to address all identified areas for improvement.

This accreditation allows 300-level students of Medicine and Surgery in KWASU to proceed to their clinical years after taking their first professional examination.
