The National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed relief materials worth ₦90 million to victims of flooding in five communities across Kwara State.
The Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the N-HYPPADEC office in Ilorin.
He said the intervention was aimed at cushioning the impact of the flood disaster on affected farmers and supporting agricultural production.
Alhaji Yelwa commended the Kwara State Government for complementing the Commission’s efforts through the provision of hybrid maize seeds and fertilisers to farmers in N-HYPPADEC communities.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their farming activities and livelihoods.
Representing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Kwara State Supervisory Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Toyosi Thomas, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to supporting programmes that enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiting local government areas, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Mr Abubakar Danladi, expressed appreciation to N-HYPPADEC for the timely intervention.
He also advised beneficiaries against selling the items, urging them instead to use them for their intended purpose.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Abdullahi Gana thanked N-HYPPADEC and the Kwara State Government for the support, assuring them that the materials would be put to effective use.
Items distributed include herbicides, fertilisers, improved maize seeds, planters and power tiller machines.
