Kwara State Government says the 163 victims rescued from captivity after the terrorist attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area are currently receiving comprehensive medical care and psychosocial support at a federal health facility.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who disclosed this in a statement, said the victims would be received by the state government after completing their medical procedures to facilitate their reintegration into society.
Governor AbdulRazaq thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to the rescue operation, noting that the security mission also secured the freedom of about 145 abducted persons from neighbouring Niger State.
The Governor also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force for their gallantry, resilience and strategic collaboration that led to the successful operation.
He appealed to residents to continue providing credible security information to security agencies, expressing confidence that the deployment of additional military formations and equipment to Kwara would strengthen efforts to tackle insecurity and prevent future attacks.
Meanwhile, family members of the rescued Woro abductees have expressed overwhelming relief and gratitude following the release of their relatives who spent months in captivity.
A mother of one of the victims, Mrs. Medina Usman, whose daughter was among those abducted, said she was yet to reunite with her child but had received information that the rescued victims had been taken to a military barracks and would subsequently be moved to Ilorin.
“I don’t know how they were rescued, and I have not seen my daughter yet. We were informed they are in Kainji Barracks and will be brought to Ilorin. I thank Almighty Allah for preserving their lives and appreciate the government and security agencies for making their release possible,” she said.
Another relative of one of the victims, Mallam Abdullah Suleiman, described the development as the restoration of hope after months of anguish and uncertainty.
“Our lost hope has now been restored. We sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the security operatives for their efforts in securing the freedom of our loved ones,” Suleiman said.
Other relatives, also expressed joy over the development, describing it as a moment of relief for the entire community after months of pain and uncertainty.
They thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the security agencies and everyone who contributed to the successful operation.
According to the family members, the victims’ release has restored hope and renewed confidence that sustained collaboration between government, security agencies and local communities can effectively tackle insecurity.
The release of the abductees has sparked celebrations in Woro community and neighbouring areas across Kaiama Local Government Area, with residents describing it as a major milestone in the ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and reunite families affected by the mass abduction.
