The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate operating around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was reportedly arrested while attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds allegedly linked to a recent abduction in the area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest followed the activation of the Command’s intelligence and tactical operations after three persons were abducted during an armed invasion of Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.
The police said investigators subsequently expanded their probe beyond the scene of the attack to trace the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly sustaining the criminal operation.
The investigation yielded results when intelligence on a ransom transaction led operatives to Sanni, who was intercepted at a Point-of-Sale, POS, outlet while allegedly attempting to cash out the ransom proceeds.
During interrogation, the police said the suspect cooperated with investigators and provided useful information about his alleged role in the ransom collection process.
He also reportedly identified two other suspected members of the syndicate, identified as Aminu and Umar.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, reassured residents that the Command would continue to disrupt criminal networks across the state.
He urged members of the public to provide timely, credible and actionable information to the police to support ongoing security operations.
