Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has inaugurated members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, ACTU, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency and ethical conduct within the institution.
The inauguration was conducted by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engineer Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, pledged the institution’s full cooperation with the ICPC in the fight against corruption and other unethical practices.
Dr. Mohammed said lack of discipline remained one of the major challenges hindering national development, stressing that the Polytechnic would continue to work with ACTU and other relevant agencies to promote integrity and compliance with established rules and regulations.
He explained that members of the newly inaugurated unit were carefully selected from both academic and non-academic staff to ensure broad representation, effective monitoring and greater awareness of accountability across the Polytechnic community.
The Team Lead of the ICPC delegation, Mr. Elijah Akaa-Kohol, described corruption as a destructive force that undermines collective progress, weakens the corporate culture of the public service and threatens the nation’s future and security.
He urged the new ACTU members to promote transparent and accountable practices within the institution and ensure that their responsibilities contribute meaningfully to the fight against corruption.
The newly inaugurated ACTU Chairman, Umar S. Iman, thanked the Polytechnic Management for the confidence reposed in the members and pledged that the unit would diligently discharge its responsibilities, stressing that the fight against corruption was a moral, institutional and national obligation.
