United States President Donald Trump has declared that leadership in artificial intelligence will determine the future balance of global power, saying countries that lead in the technology will enjoy major strategic advantages.
Speaking at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump described artificial intelligence as a transformative force with the potential to reshape economies, healthcare, national security and scientific innovation.
He announced that his administration would begin referring to the technology as “super intelligence” in official government documents, arguing that the new term better reflects its growing capabilities.
Trump said the United States would continue investing in research and innovation while avoiding policies that could slow the pace of technological development.
He also maintained that America currently holds an advantage over China in the global competition to develop advanced artificial intelligence and pledged to preserve that lead.
The U.S. President added that responsible innovation in artificial intelligence would be central to addressing future global challenges while strengthening economic growth and national competitiveness.
