Thousands of the members of G-15 political group and grassroots mobilisers across the four Local Government Areas of Kwara Central have announced their return to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The group made the declaration during a news conference at the NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin, saying that the decision followed what they described as careful reflection on their political experiences.
The former G-15 members said they had previously worked in support of several political figures, including Senator Saliu Mustapha, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki and Honourable Yinka Esho.
The group lead spokesperson, Alhaji Abduwahab Ajibola explained that their activities involved grassroots mobilisation, ward meetings, youth and women engagement, community outreach and voter mobilisation across Kwara Central.
Alhaji Ajibola said they had come to the conclusion that the G-15 political project, as they experienced it, had increasingly shifted from collective interests towards the political ambitions of some individuals.
The former supporters said they would no longer allow themselves or their grassroots structures to be used in political battles which, in their view, do not advance the interests of the people and the APC.
They declared their support for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the APC governorship candidate, Right Honourable Yakubu Salihu Danladi, as well as other duly nominated candidates of the party.
The group said their return to the APC was not prompted by promises of political appointments or positions, but was a decision based on their experiences at the grassroots.
They stressed that grassroots support belongs to the people, maintaining that no individual politician or political group owns the people of Kwara State.
The former G-15 members also appealed to their former political allies to reconsider their position, embrace reconciliation and return to the APC.
They urged APC members to close ranks, saying the party’s internal contests are over and the focus should now be on unity, mobilisation and preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The group pledged to return to wards, streets and communities to mobilise support peacefully and lawfully, declaring that they stand with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Yakubu Salihu Danladi, other APC candidates and the people of Kwara State.
Receiving the former G-15 grassroots mobilisers, Senior Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Political Matters, Prince Suleiman Abubakar Sai Kai, welcomed them back to the APC.
Prince Abubakar assured the returnees of the governor’s readiness to accommodate them and provide the necessary attention and support towards the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
He commended the former G-15 members for what he described as their clear aims and objectives for a better Kwara, urging them to remain focused and determined in their support for Governor AbdulRazaq and all APC candidates.
The former grassroots mobilisers were from different camp of the G-15 political group across Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, and Ilorin South Local Government Areas of Kwara Central.
