Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the creative industry and cultural development across Kwara State.
Governor AbdulRazaq stated this in Ilorin while opening a retrospective exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of legendary Afrobeat musician, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The exhibition was organised by June Creative Advisory at the Institute of Contemporary African Arts and Film.
Governor AbdulRazaq said societal development goes beyond physical infrastructure, stressing the importance of cultural institutions in preserving heritage, promoting knowledge, and creating opportunities for young people.

He explained that the institute was established to preserve authentic African stories, nurture local talent, and showcase the works of artists and thinkers to a global audience.
The Governor described Fela as an exceptional cultural icon whose music challenged societal norms and promoted conversations about power, freedom, identity, and justice.
He commended the founder of June Creative Advisory, Mrs. Seun Awosanya, her team, and members of the Fela family for bringing the exhibition to Kwara State.
The exhibition features photographs, graphic works, and other artistic expressions showcasing Fela’s enduring influence on African music and culture.
Also speaking, veteran actor Yinka Quadri urged the state government to sustain initiatives that celebrate veteran artists, including Ray Eyiwunmi, Adebayo Salami, Ade Love, and Adeyemi Afolayan, in recognition of their contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
In her remarks, Fela’s daughter, Yeni Kuti, commended the Kwara State Government and the organizers for honouring her late father. She said the recognition demonstrated that Fela’s legacy transcended ethnic and geographical boundaries, describing him as a true African and Nigerian whose influence extended far beyond his place of origin.
Yeni Kuti also appreciated the state government, the Ministries of Communications and Tourism, as well as corporate sponsors, including Green Bay, for supporting the exhibition.
Harmony FM reports that the event was attended by prominent Nollywood actors, including Yinka Quadri, Ibrahim Chatta, Baba Kamo, and Habeeb Alagbe.
