Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners, promising to consider their requests for a vehicle and a permanent secretariat.

Governor AbdulRazaq gave the assurance in Ilorin during a meeting with the leadership of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP.

The Governor said he would work with the Head of Service to secure a permanent office for the union and address concerns over the rent it currently pays, adding that the request for a bus would also be considered.

The Commissioner for Finance, Dr Hauwa Nuru, said the state government was up to date with pension payments and continued to make regular provisions for the payment of gratuities.

She explained that pensioners who had not received their entitlements for the period between 2015 and 2018 were yet to benefit because they had not presented themselves for the required verification exercise.

The NUP Chairman in Kwara State, Comrade Mahmud Oladimeji Saidu, commended the Governor for addressing outstanding amputated salaries amounting to more than four billion naira and improving the regularity of pension payments since May 2019.

Comrade Saidu said pensioners now received their payments on or before the twenty-fifth of every month, describing the development as a significant improvement in their welfare.
