The importance of regular health checks for healthy living has been emphasised to residents of Egbejila Community in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The charge was given during a free medical outreach organised by a coalition of community-based organisations, including Lamp Bearers Islamic School, The Frontliners Ilorin, and Amicable Specialist Hospital.
A medical practitioner at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and Medical Director of Amicable Specialist Hospital, Dr. Afeez Oyesola, said the outreach was necessary due to the rising cases of non-communicable diseases and widespread ignorance about preventive health in society.
Dr. Oyesola noted that the free medical services were also aimed at complementing the efforts of the Kwara State Government in ensuring good health for its citizens.
Chairman of The Frontliners Ilorin, Prince Surajudeen Adisa, described the programme as part of their contribution to societal development.
According to him, “Government cannot meet all the needs of the people alone. As a community-based organisation in Egbejila, they decided to join hands to assist the less privileged, especially in the area of health.”
Adisa added that any critical case discovered during the screening would be referred to Amicable Specialist Hospital for further medical attention.
On her part, Mrs. Olubusayo Bello of Lamp Bearers Islamic School said the institution, which is marking its 20th anniversary, has been involved in community service over the years and decided to partner with other organisations to give back to society.
She urged residents of Egbejila to take full advantage of the free medical services and to maintain proper hygiene in their environments.
On behalf of beneficiaries, Hawau Saheed and Yusuf Abdul-Rahman express appreciation to the organisers for taking the free medical services to their door step.
Harmony FM reports that over 238 beneficiaries received free medical services which included: blood pressure check, blood sugar test weight/BMI measurement, temperature check, medical consultation, health education, free drug dispensing and referral of complex cases.
