The Senate of the University of Ilorin has approved the appointment of three of the University’s retired dons as Emeritus Professors. A statemeht by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, disclosed that the University’s highest decion-making body, at its 304th meeting on Thursday, gave its nod for Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, Prof. Olu Obafemi, and Prof. Musbau Akanji to be addressed henceforth as ‘Emeritus Professors’.

Emeritus Professor Oloyede, who retired from the services of the University in October last year, is a former Vice Chancellor of the University and the current Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation (JAMB).

Emeritus Professor Obafemi, a scholar of English and Dramatic Literature, also retired from the services of the University in 2020.

Emeritus Professor Akanji, a former two-time Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and Federal University of Technology, Minna, is a scholar of Biochemistry–hee retired in 2021.

In another development, the Senate of the University of Ilorin has elected Prof. Taibat Odunola-Bakare of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Prof. Mukhtar Etudaiye of the Faculty of Law as Deputy Vice-Chancellors. The duo will succeed Prof. Olubunmi Omotesho and Prof. Sulaiman Ambali, whose tenures as Deputy Vice-Chancellors expired on December 20, 2024.

The University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun said in a press release that “the two new Deputy Vice Chancellors would formally assume office once the University Governing Council, led by Surv. Abiodun Aluko, approves the decision of the Senate.” A Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Odunola-Bakare is currently the Director of the Centre for Management and Leadership (CML). She is also the immediate past Dean of the Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin.

Odunola-Bakare will serve as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) subject to the approval of the University Governing Council. Prof. Etudaiye, on his part, is a Professor of Law and the current Chairman of the University Admissions Committee. He will serve as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation) subject to the approval of the University Governing Council.The current Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation), Prof. Adegboyega Fawole, will now serve as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services).

According to the release, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole commended the outgoing deputy vice Chancellors on their dedication and loyalty to the system.
