The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 8 Headquarters, Lokoja, AIG Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has charged personnel of the Kwara State Police Command to uphold professionalism, neutrality and discipline ahead of the 2027 general elections.
AIG Otimenyin gave the charge during an operational inspection tour of the command at the Police Headquarters, Ilorin, on Thursday.
She warned officers against political partisanship, inducement and other forms of compromise as political activities and campaigns intensify ahead of the elections.
The AIG urged personnel deployed for election duties not to campaign for any political party or attempt to influence voters, stressing that officers must remain neutral in the discharge of their responsibilities.
She also cautioned officers against allowing politicians to use them, noting that those who compromise the neutrality of the Force would be made to face the consequences of their actions.
AIG Otimenyin reiterated the reform agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, saying the new policing approach emphasises professionalism, community partnership and respect for human rights rather than extortion and brutality.
She urged officers to reject what she described as “Dracula policing” and embrace a people-oriented approach that would strengthen public confidence in the Police.
The AIG commended the Kwara State Command for maintaining a positive public image and urged personnel to sustain the goodwill through operational readiness, discipline and professionalism throughout the electioneering period.
