The tragic killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a young woman who was lured and murdered through social media earlier this year, has prompted a strong response from community leaders and stakeholders in Ilorin, as a coalition of voices begins mobilising against technology-facilitated gender-based violence.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director, Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, Nurah Jimoh-Sanni, represented by Ruth Adeosun, described the gathering as a necessary and timely response to a painful reality that has left the Ilorin community in mourning.

She stressed that true progress would be measured not by words or resolutions but by the safety of women and girls in their digital interactions.

At the centre of the movement is a high-level stakeholders’ dialogue themed “From Silence to Action,” organised by the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, with support from Urgent Action Fund-Africa.

Participants also discussed the importance of transforming digital platforms into instruments of empowerment rather than exploitation.
