As Muslims celebrate this year’s Maolud Nabiyy, a Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin, Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan, has cautioned Muslims against extravagant celebrations.

Professor Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan gave the advice during his popular Islamic programme, Madrasat Muhammad on Radio Nigeria – Harmony 103.5 FM, Idofian, Kwara State.

He noted that while it is permissible to honour the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), such observance should not contradict the teachings of Islam.

Professor Ali-Agan explained that Islam emphasizes moderation, warning that excessive spending, loud gatherings, and activities contrary to Islamic injunctions undermine the essence of the celebration.

The Islamic scholar advised Muslims to instead use the occasion to reflect on the exemplary lifestyle of the Prophet and rededicate themselves to acts of worship, charity, and community service.

Professor Abubakr Ali-Agan stressed that true love for the Prophet should be demonstrated through good conduct, adherence to the Qur’an, and the Sunnah.
