She noted that the visit opens opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas affecting women, young people, healthcare, education, economic empowerment, and community development

Wife of the Kwara State Governor, Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, says the visit of British Deputy High Commissioner Mrs. Gill Lever OBE will strengthen ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Receiving Mrs. Lever and her delegation in her office in Ilorin, Prof. Abdulrazaq said the engagement would build on mutual respect, shared interests, and a collective commitment to progress and development.

Acting in capacity as the Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum and founder of the Ajike People Support Centre, Prof. Abdulrazaq commended the UK for its longstanding support for development initiatives, capacity building, and institutional partnerships in Nigeria.

She called for stronger youth-focused partnerships to empower women, young people, and vulnerable groups while building community resilience, and also appealed for deeper collaboration in healthcare, education, skills development, climate resilience, and gender inclusion to drive sustainable progress in the state.

In her remarks, the British Deputy High Commissioner encouraged stronger private sector engagement and urged greater attention to investment opportunities beyond Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Mrs Gill Lever described UK-Nigeria relations as enduring, citing the contribution of over 500,000 Nigerians living in the UK to economic growth, cultural exchange, and development initiatives in both countries.

The British delegate inspected the Ilorin Innovation Hub, the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Sobi Specialist Hospital, and the Olufolake Safe Haven at the Stella Obasanjo Centre in Ilorin.
