The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, has called for greater adoption of disruptive technologies and Artificial Intelligence in trade administration to enhance efficiency, transparency, and decision-making in Customs operations.

Adeniyi made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 4th Biennial International Conference organised by the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, in collaboration with the Faculty of Philology, RUDN University, Russia.

The conference, themed “Disruptive Technology: Human and Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Economy,” held on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, at the University of Ilorin Main Auditorium.

Speaking on the theme, Adeniyi noted that technology has fundamentally changed how Customs services worldwide analyse trade patterns, process data, and execute operations.

He stressed that the Nigeria Customs Service is committed to embracing these innovations while maintaining alignment with global best practices in revenue collection, trade facilitation, and border security.

Adeniyi also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions, financial regulators, auditors, policymakers, and legislators to build a more robust national revenue and economic system.

Harmony FM reports that the Comptroller-General’s visit to Kwara State included stops at the Ilorin International Airport, where he was received by senior NCS officers and officials of other security agencies, and the Kwara Area Command Headquarters, where he received briefings on operational performance, enforcement activities, and revenue generation, commending officers for their dedication and professionalism.

He equally inspected the Command’s Government Warehouse, expressing satisfaction with the handling of seized items and reiterating the importance of accountability and transparency.

The Kwara Area Command described the CGC’s visit and participation in the conference as a morale booster for officers and a strong signal of the Service’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
