The National Population Commission, NPC, has formally announced the full commencement of Digital Registration of Births and Deaths on the VitalReg platform under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, E-CRVS, system.
The Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State in the National Population Commission, Dr. Yahaya Alada, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Alada said the initiative is now operational across the sixteen Local Government Areas of the state, describing the digital innovation as one of the most transformative reforms in the history of civil registration in Kwara State.
He explained that the new registration initiative reflects the commission’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery, strengthen data integrity, and guarantee that every birth and death occurring in Kwara is documented accurately and securely.
According to him, the system will also contribute to reliable state statistics to guide public policy, resource allocation, and provide the data needed for effective state planning.
He further noted that the commission has established 92 functional registration centres across the state’s 16 local government areas and is expanding access through stronger collaboration with key stakeholders.
Reaffirming the NPC’s partnership with the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, and the National Identity Commission, Alada said the alliance is aimed at decentralising and localising registration services at the community level to improve accessibility, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen grassroots participation in civil registration processes.
He appreciated the Kwara State Government, local government councils, healthcare institutions, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the media for supporting the commission’s activities.
Harmony FM reports that Alada thereafter called for the support and active participation of all stakeholders and every resident of Kwara to ensure that all births and deaths are registered promptly.
