The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the 9 Division of the Nigerian Army, with its headquarters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The union described the development as a significant milestone that would strengthen national security and enhance the protection of lives and property in Kwara and neighbouring Niger State.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Suleiman Shuaib Dagbo, National President of the IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, praised the President for the approval and expressed appreciation to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for working with the Presidency and other stakeholders to secure the Army Division for Ilorin.
Alhaji Abdulmalik congratulated the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, the people of Ilorin Emirate, and all residents of Kwara State on what he described as a landmark achievement.
The retired Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service said the establishment of the Division would boost the nation’s security architecture and improve the military’s operational capacity in addressing security challenges within the region.
He also thanked President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq for the recent approval of an Army Battalion in Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the decision as another strategic step toward improving security in the state.
The IEDPU President assured the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army of the unwavering support and cooperation of the people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State to ensure the successful take-off and smooth operation of the newly approved Army Division and Battalion.
