Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has received the 163 abducted victims of the Woro community attack in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, following their rescue from captivity.
The victims, women and children, were handed over to the governor by the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.
Receiving the victims, Governor AbdulRazaq described the February attack on Woro as a painful and regrettable incident, expressing relief that those abducted had been rescued.
The Governor directed that the victims receive appropriate medical attention to ensure their well-being following their ordeal.
He gave the assurance of his administration commitment to strengthening security and protecting lives and property across the state.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended President Bola Tinubu for his support towards securing the freedom of the victims and praised the security agencies for their courage, sacrifice and sustained efforts in the rescue operation.
the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, who handed over the victims to the Governor, reiterated the military’s determination to tackle insecurity and bring banditry to an end.
The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu Omar, expressed relief over the return of the victims and commended the federal, state and local governments for their efforts towards securing their release.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Mallam Abdullah Abubakar, praised President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq and the security agencies for their roles in the rescue operation.
Speaking on behalf of the rescued victims, Aminat Salihu and Hawa Salihu narrated their ordeal in captivity, describing the experience as difficult.
They expressed appreciation to the federal, state and local governments as well as the security agencies for securing their freedom.
Some of the rescued victims are receiving necessary medical and psychosocial support at the State General Hospital Ilorin as efforts continue towards their rehabilitation and reintegration.
